Ever Thought of Testing Your Broadband Speed?

02/10/2010

Most users of a broadband supplier will tell you that their internet speed is believably the biggest part of the supply. However some broadband company will not furnish customers with instruments to test your speed. The saving grace is there are some websites available that will permit you to trial your internet speed. When trying out your internet speed it’s crucial to get a website that is tailored to your nation, there is no point executing a trial using a checker placed in England when you are trying to do a in India (broadbandspeedtest.co.in is good if you are).. A test will present you your upload speed as well as your download speed. Upload is the speed between your computer and the Internet, so if you transmit a lot of files then upload is essential to you. Download speed is the speed at which you can get files from the internet to your laptop. Download speed is usually a lot faster than upload and this is natural. Most users are lots more interested in their download speed as opposed to their upload speed as users commonly pass a good deal more time on downloads. Once you have found the speed of your internet supply what do you do if you are less than happy? The most obvious thing is to notify your supplier and tell them that you have seen that your speed is slower than it should be. You should also do checks at your property to make sure that your connection is working at 100%. Always ensure that all integral phone wiring is in first-class shape and do not employ poor quality lines. See to it your computer virus computer software is up to date. When executing a broadband speed trial always check that you aren’t carrying out any other activities which may be making the supply to be in use such as torrent software or downloading films.

Ambitious Proposals Laid Down in the Digital Britain Report

06/26/2009

Lord Carter seeks to bring mobile broadband into the lives of commuters in London underground Tube trains. The Digital Britain report, which was released recently, has announced that in order to make the UK a leader in digital technology it was important to give fast broadband to everyone during travel.

The report suggests improving the present internet coverage in the city Tubes, which is quite unreliable currently and works only on the main lines. As a result, the commuters cannot do their normal online work while they are in the Tube trains (click for Virgin dongle info). The report aims at completing this job by 2012 when London is scheduled to hold the Olympic Games, which may be the most digitalized Olympics ever.

The proposal has emphasised this need to the government, which had refused to fund the project earlier. Many times in the past, the issue of internet connectivity in the London Underground had been brought up and rejected. The government had cited the shaky economic situation as reasons for rejecting the project.

However, the suggestion made by the report and the aim of making London completely digitalized by the Olympic Games seems to have caused the government to support the initiative. The government now wants to enlist the help of broadband subscribers to make this endeavour a success.

Canary Wharf Office District No Longer Singing

05/08/2009

Major shareholders in the famous Canary Wharf, Songbird Estates PLC, must now face up to their current and future financial problems. It seems many of those problems are because they did make such a huge investment in the Wharf.

Demand for space at the Canary Wharf seems destined to fall, as the figures for office vacancies in London are showing a sharp rise. Independent Property Consultants Knight Frank, who have offices worldwide, predict last years figures of 4.7% will rise to more than 13% by the end of this year.

Only last year, Songbird were renewing leases up to twelve percent more per metre squared, above average London rates. Many of Songbird’s leases for the Dockland’s office district were long term, on the whole, averaging around eighteen years.

Between 2009 and 2014 many more leases will be running out and if current holders of those leases decide to relocate, more than 500,000 square feet at The Wharf will be left vacant. With a rise in demand and availability of desk space schemes, even if those companies decide to renew, previous prices, of up to £46 per square metre will not be easy to command.

With shares in the company already down by 70% and assets by 80%, Songbird’s future looks uncertain. Debt repayments are already outweighing revenue, and talks are underway between the company, their shareholders, and CityGroup PLC. An £880million loan provided by Citibank must be repaid by 2010 and Rothschild & Sons have been hired to find the company a viable solution. With rising vacancy rates and falling rents, things are not looking good for Songbird.

Recession Catches-up with Mobile Broadband

03/04/2009

GSMA had recently announced that mobile broadband has the power to pull the economy out of recession but it seems the belief of the world’s leading body representing the mobile industry is in stark contrast to recent trends. Nearly every major mobile provider or device manufacturer is witnessing decreasing profits due to declining customer interest and shrinking demand.

The very notion of the mobile broadband industry being recession-proof has taken a severe beating and it seems that the economic downturn has finally caught-up with the misplaced confidence. All the noted broadband providers and mobile manufacturers have seen the sales of their products plummet and as a result, new rollouts have been put on hold. It is easy to understand their situation as launching new services makes little sense when the market sentiment is getting increasingly negative. Most of the operators have put their awaited upgrade to 3G and investments for the 4G services on the back burner.

The recently held Mobile World Congress heard that investments wouldn’t see a significant decline, but leading newspapers have reported that players like T-Mobile and Orange are likely to check their momentum towards 4G.

No one knows for sure when the economy will see an uptick, but until that happens no industry seems immune, and big investments are likely to flow from the government and not from the private players.

Mobile Broadband is the Secret to the Spread of High Speed Internet

01/09/2009

Mobile broadband has been advertised as the new technology in the broadband world which is more and more looking like it the secret to the future of broadband. Only a few year ago, broad band could be only available through a traditional telephone landline, ADSL connection, which connects to your PC through an ADSL modem or router. Wireless high speed internet is more and more popular, whereby the Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line modem is attached to the terminal thanks to a wireless intranet, and as a consequence internet surfers are now clearing their homes of ADSL cables. However mobile broad-band will take internet connections further and offering another big step in the future of broadband; a broadband connection almost in all the house without the use of a telephone landline cable.

The prospect of connecting with a working broad-band speed at home is surely obviously attractive to many internet users, like those who often connect with their computers not from home. Business people who regularly travel for business meetings are the main obvious target for mobile high speed connection who will welcome the chance of not having to look for a reliable WI-FI hotspot for a reliable internet connection. Mobile broad-band is going to go further than that, and as costs start to decrease and internet speeds are increased soon we will see a great number of broad-band clients signing up for mobile broadband.

Mobile broadband works by linking a portable modem to any modern PC terminal, generally referred to as a ‘dongle’, from which a personal computer can browse the internet by using the mobile ADSL package the internet users have subscribed for. Most companies are marketing mobile high speed connection packages and coverage of the networks, famous as 3G networks, which covers more than 90% of the United Kingdom.

Connection speed is important with any broad-band connection and mobile broadband suppliers at the beginning had some problems to market potential mobile users that mobile high speed internet could perform as fast as traditional, ADSL landline high speed internet. Connection speeds are getting better, since Vodafone has reported mobile broad-band speeds of up to more than 7 mb, similar to most of the landline internet connections. Most countries, including the United Kingdom, are going to sponsor with huge resources in fibre optic cable networks, because they want to increase broadband speeds to up to 100 mb.

In New Zealand, however, a leading telecommunications company has announced that mobile broad band networks are set to increase fast over the coming years and they have forecasted that mobile broad band could be delivering connections of up to 100mb in the next three years, exactly the year the UK’s fibre optic network is going to be delivered. This could create an important turning point in industry thinking, with the creation of an efficient super fast mobile broad-band network with obvious advantages over the cabling of thousands of kilometers of fibre optic cables, not least from a practical point of view.

    ADSL

    05/06/2008

Improvements to broadband networks are coming to the UK, with ISP’s such as BT looking to roll out faster broadband solutions on new optical networks. The main challenge - and demand - for developing these networks is driven by bandwidth hungry use on the internet, with use of video and music increasingly a normal everyday part of the internet user’s surfing experience. The result is much bigger demand on ISP network’s for fast broadband solutions, which can cope with the higher traffic demands. However, while demand by home users continues to grow, the challenges for business, where network speeds and management can be mission critical, makes broadband speeds an issue of core importance. This is especially the case for businesses, where even their own private networks are now increasingly struggling to cope with resource demand on their own broadband systems. While originally many companies have been reliant on ADSL solutions, private business is now looking towards ADSL2 solutions. While many corporate businesses already have VPN and WAN solutions existing on their company intranets, the need for high bandwidth leased lines to provide fast ADSL solutions are part of their own bonded ADSL network set ups.As video especially becomes an integral part of the feature-rich internet, the need for leased line providers who can deliver high-bandwidth network solutions will surely continue to increasing be in demand.

    PBX Vs. Voip

    04/06/2008

Many of those out there are considering the best way to go, PBX versus VoIP. While there are some similarities between the two, the differences are large as well. As a business owner, you need to consider more than just which one looks like it’s the right choice. You will need to cover:

    • Ease of use of the system with your employees.

    • The costs of use of the system compared to that which you are using now.

    • The installation cost of the system.

    • The quality of the system and whether or not it will be reliable for your company’s needs.

Looking at this, there are many reasons to do a PBX versus VoIP analysis. Yet, this is also quite difficult to do. Supposed you looked throughout the internet for options. The bottom line is that whichever service the company you find is selling is going to tell you that their product is better. That doesn’t seem to help your needs for answers about PBX versus VoIP. So, now what?

    Understanding Your Options

In your search for answers about which is the right choice for you, PBX versus VoIP, you will want to consider both choices. Here are some things to help you do just that:

    • The largest benefit of VoIP is the way in which you are charged for calling out of state/country. Because the rates are just so much lower, many businesses see the extreme value in the money aspects. Simply, in PBX versus VoIP when it comes to cost, VoIP wins hands down. The more you can save on phone calls, the more business you can get and the more profit doesn’t get flushed.

    • Also, VoIP allows for businesses to have a lesser expensive installation process. In most cases, you are already fairly established in what installation needs done. Most of the VoIP services simply connect through an Ethernet. Most computers, phone systems and fax machines already have this feature. It’s a matter of plugging them in.

    • But, in the battle of PBX versus VoIP, when it comes to wanting to be able to have extensions and other PBX related applications, you may not be able to find this through the VoIP service providers. Instead, you will need to stick with your PBX or look at other options.

    Understanding The Services

It is also important to understand the services that each of these has to offer. While PBX is a system that allows you to have several connected lines through one actual public phone line, VoIP takes it through the internet. This allows for a completely different ability and product.

It is also important to note that services tend to change all the time as well. For example, through the development of new technologies, it is becoming much cheaper to install the PBX systems. While in the past, the cost of installation was so high as it allowed many small business and even some larger ones to simply look elsewhere for their needs, now they are able to fill those needs much better. PBX is becoming more affordable for these companies due to improved technology.

You can expect the battle of PBX versus VoIP to go on for a long time. There are many reasons for wanting to choose one product over the other. The best suggestion that you should take, though, is the simple one that you are able to research each company and offer thoroughly on the web to see just how well it does fit your needs. PBX versus VoIP is a question only you can ultimately answer.
