When Former Lt. Gov. of Texas Ben Barnes studied in the University of Texas at Austin, he was busy switching his time between vacuum salesman and working at the Texas State Health Department. After detecting some financial errors that led to the State Health Commissioner’s indictment, Ben Barnes became engrossed in the world of politics. During his occupancy as House Speaker, the president entrusted him to serve as a U.S. delegate in the NATO Conference in 1967 and as a United Nations delegate to Geneva, Switzerland in 1968. After serving two terms under Governor John Connally, Ben Barnes retired from politics in 1973 and started pursuing private business and development opportunities.
