Using a Mac Mighty Mouse on a PC

08/29/2008

Have you seen the Might Mouse? No, I do not mean the super hero. I mean the
latest innovation by Apple computers– the Mighty Mouse. The mighty mouse is
unlike any mouse you’ve ever seen before.

The Mighty Mouse works directly with the latest version of the Macintosh
operating system to provide many advanced features. However, using the Mighty
Mouse with a Macintosh is not the subject of this article. This article focuses on
exactly what you can expect when using the Mighty Mouse with a Windows based
PC

Introducing the Mighty Mouse

The mighty mouse is a smoothly designed white oval. To me it looks like 1/2 of
a tic-tac(tm) candy. It fits nicely in your hand and is very easy to maneuver. It is an
optical mouse, and thus has no roller-ball. This allows the mouse to be operated on
a variety of surfaces. There are no visible buttons. However, if you click near the
front left or right of the mouse, you will produce a left or right click.

There are also two buttons on the sides of the mouse. These buttons operate
together. If you press both buttons– effectively squeezing the mouse, it allows you
to select text, of perform some other custom operation. These two buttons are not
functional when using Windows. I rarely use the “squeeze buttons” on the
Macintosh, so I don’t miss them too much on Windows.

Perhaps the best feature on the Mighty Mouse is the scroll ball. This looks like a
single Cyclops eye at the top of the mouse. The scroll ball is small, about the size of
a pea. Because it is so small you can roll it with very little pressure on your figure.
The scroll bar allows you to scroll the current window in all four directions.
Unfortunately, when used with a PC, the scroll ball allows no movement of the
horizontal scroll bar.

The Mighty Mouse uses a USB interface. There is currently not a wireless version
of the Mighty Mouse available. Additionally, no PS/2 converter is provided. To
connect the Mighty Mouse to a PS/2 port will require you to purchase a PS/2
converter.

Windows Drivers

Installing the drivers is a snap. There are no drivers for Windows. The Mighty
Mouse works like any other USB mouse. Simply plug it into your Windows computer
and it is ready to go. A reboot is not even required.

Unsupported Features in Windows

The Mighty Mouse was designed with the Macintosh in mind. As a result, some
of its features do not work on Windows. For me, the most missed feature is
horizontal scrolling. On a Macintosh you can scroll in all four directions using the
scroll-ball. On Windows you can only scroll vertically.

There are other features that are not available on Windows. However, I do not
miss these as much as the four-way scrolling. The two side buttons do not function
on Windows. On the Macintosh these can select text or be assigned to other
functions. Additionally, the left mouse button can be reassigned to other functions
on the Macintosh.

Conclusions

At home I work primarily with a Macintosh, and would not be without my
Mighty Mouse. Being able to scroll in all four directions without moving the mouse
is very handy. I was so fond of this device that I bought a second Mighty Mouse to
use at work. At work I use a Windows XP based PC.

The same feel of the ergonomically designed mouse is obviously still present,
and much appreciated. But not being able to scroll horizontally is unfortunate. On
the Macintosh the four-way scrolling is one of the key features of the Mighty
mouse. For this feature to be missing on the Windows side is disappointing.

However, despite this limitation I believe that the Mighty Mouse is still one of
the best mouse choices, even in the PC world.

Brilliant Concept In Online Marketing Is Attracting Thousands

08/28/2008

Co -founders Rod Stinson and Chris Koehl have brought the 1 Step System opportunity to people all over the world. “Massive Participation” would be the best way to describe what has been starting to happen within the last couple of weeks, as so many want to jump on the band wagon while the company is still very young. This is of course when the biggest profits are made.

What makes this business opportunity so attractive is that it is so easy. It is appropriately called the 1Step System. It stands to reason, the more an individual puts in to their business, the more he or she will get out of it, however, your early efforts in the beginning stages can easily provide at least some income while you lay back and observe. (But does a person really want to lay back with all this easy money to be made?)

Everyone knows, there is no such thing as a free lunch, however, we haven’t seen another business opportunity where start-up costs can so easily be recouped in such a short time and profit starts rolling in. From those who have no experience, to the most seasoned marketer, its a great opportunity to see a steady cash flow in a relatively short time. Is this a genuine income opportunity home based Internet business or a work at home based business opportunity? Whatever you choose to call it, it is a brilliant concept designed for building wealth for anyone who is savvy enough to see just how easy this is in comparison to other turnkey business ventures.

Our experience has revealed that to many unsuspecting home business entrepreneurs have fallen victim to deceptive and greedy get rich quick scams that guarantee your success. This business sets itself far apart from those, and what is so refreshing about the 1 Step System is there is no selling, no phone calls, no explaining, no answering questions and no closing. Most of the work is done for you. It’s a fact, co-founders Rod Stinson and Chris Koehl have taken the ‘Net by storm. It’s nice knowing that with this business, anyone, regardless of their experience or background, has the same chance for financial independence.

As a wise man once said: “Fear and Skepticism are your only roadblocks on the path to success”

Spa Resorts: Your Guide to Choosing One

08/24/2008

When choosing a spa resort, there are almost endless options to choose from. Whether you are looking for something simple and low cost, or if you want a pampered and extravagant experience, there is a spa resort that offers what you are looking for. Spa resorts can be found all over the world too. To find one, you can check with AAA, or a very good option would be to search the internet for exactly what you want. Many online sites specialize in vacation planning, including spa resort information. Below are just a few of the many options you have to choose from when picking a spa resort.

Some spa resorts are very simple. They will often offer physical therapy services, volcanic clay “mud” baths and massages. Facials and body treatments will also be included. Of course, they will have spa facilities as well. These spa packages can be enjoyed anywhere from 4 to 30 days, depending on how long you can stay, and what your budget allows.

When you move up to the mid-level spa resorts, they tend to offer a little more. An exercise facility is one of the extras. Depending on where the spa is located, they may offer hiking or other outdoor activities. Often gourmet food is on the menu and included in the package. Of course, the mid-level spas also offer everything you would find in an economy package.

Things become more exciting when you opt for a luxury spa resort. This is where the services offered become almost endless. At some luxury spa resorts, you are afforded a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape. Others offer health improvement, fine dining, yoga and meditation, and low-fat cuisine. Horseback riding and other outdoor activities will often be available. Golfing facilities are common at luxury spa resorts. Watersports and skiing are offered sometimes, too. Regardless of the spa you choose, the goal will normally be stress reduction, relaxation, and health improvement.

You will also find that there are many types of specialty spas available. An example of this would be a Connoisseur spa. These spas are more “upper class”, and give more attention to each guest. They usually have more staff available per guest than a conventional spa would have. Wonderful ambiance and cuisine are always offered at a Connoisseur spa. Don’t forget your checkbook, though, as these are at the top of the list of spas.

Mobile spas are a novel idea. With a mobile spa, the professionals bring the spa to you. Well, they don’t bring an actual spa, but they will offer massages, facials, manicures, and other health treatments right to your house. They can even come to small parties.

Your spa resort vacation will only be limited to your imagination and your budget. If what you are looking for is health related, you can normally find a spa resort that caters to it, regardless of how much you have available to spend. All it takes is a little research on your part, and you can have a spa vacation that you will always remember.

Grief - How To Deal With It

Grief is an integral part of almost everyone’s life. Whenever you go through the loss of a near and dear one, you go through a grief process. Grief is experienced physically and psychologically. Crying is an integral part of grief process. In cultures where crying is acceptable, loss is borne more readily than in those in which crying is discouraged.

When we have lost a near and dear one, it is initially difficult to accept the loss. This is natural. As time passes, the loss becomes easier to bear from a psychological perspective. But emotional expression is still an integral part of grieving. If the person is not allowed to grieve due to societal or family pressures, other problems like depression or anxiety may arise. From Nature’s perspective, once someone has died, it is important that the(unconscious) mind accepts the loss. Once the unconscious mind accepts the loss after going through crying and sadness , life becomes easier.

A simple exercise will bring benefit to all those who want to deal with grief of a loved one.

Exercise: Close your eyes and imagine seeing the lost loved one in front of you. Talk to the person in your mind as if the person was standing in front of you. Treat the image as a real person. Having finished saying what you would like to say, bid the person GOODBYE and see the person go. You will notice feeling like crying or feeling sad.

Do this exercise everyday at least once, preferably before sleeping, till you start to feel comfortable seeing the person go. By that time your sadness will have reduced to a remarkable extent. This exercise can save you many months of counseling and a lot of money if done as advised.

Working with Difficult People: 3 Questions to Help You Turn Your Tormentors into Teachers

The Dance of Conflict

When faced with the prospect of meeting with a confrontational employee, the project manager of a New Hampshire insurance company heaved a sigh. Not again, he thought to himself. Every conversation with this guy is a struggle.

He decided to use the meeting as an opportunity to shift perspective and try a new approach. He began by imagining that the employee had good intentions but was a bit rough around the edges. He considered that maybe if he aligned with the employee, he might be better able to direct him. First, he arranged the office chairs so that instead of face to face, they were at oblique angles and generally facing the same direction. Then he took a few deep breaths and opened the door.

The employee began by stating with intensity all that was going wrong with the project. The manager’s initial reaction was to resist the attack, but he refocused his attention on listening and understanding and sat quietly for a while. Instead of coming back with answers or a rebuttal, he found himself asking the employee what he thought the real nature of the problem was and what actions he would suggest to solve it. The confrontational atmosphere diffused and gave way to a sense of collaboration. The two were aligned physically in their chairs and now conceptually in the way they approached the problem. The change the manager made in himself turned out to be very effective, and both manager and employee began to work on solving the issues facing the project.

From Tormentor to Teacher

It’s hard to like everyone. Some colleagues are great partners; we know their style and blend easily with them. We “dance well together.” With others we always seem to be out of step. We wonder, How can they be that way? or What makes them tick? Or worse - we don’t care; we just want to be as far away as possible.

The problem is we still have to work with these people, and our reactivity in their presence gives them a kind of power over us. However, by seeking to understand the opponent, we take the initiative. At worst, we learn something. At best, we may turn them into an ally and improve the quality of the work environment.

But how do you turn a tormentor into a teacher? Begin by asking yourself some questions about who they are and why they behave the way they do.

Who is this person away from the workplace? See the different parts of this person - the parent, grandparent, friend, dancer, skier, singer, or loved one (of someone!). Chances are you’re only seeing the annoying part of your tormentor. Widen your perspective.

What is their positive intention? Underneath the disrespectful behavior, what do they really want? Respect? Independence? Control? Acknowledgement? Attention? You may realize that you have similar goals, though you seek them differently.

Why do you think they behave as they do? It’s useful to adopt the attitude that their actions have little (if anything) to do with you. Most people operate out of habit. Even if they don’t get the respect or attention they desire, they can’t change because they don’t know any other way. Maybe it falls to you to help them find it. Suggest ways they might achieve their aims more effectively. Be their teacher.

True Power

As you read this article, think of someone with whom your “dance” feels like a struggle. Then, instead of wishing they would change, start with yourself. It doesn’t mean you’re wrong, at fault, or need to change your opinion. It means that in order to resolve the conflict it works better to begin with what you can control - you.

Remember that you’re doing this for you. You’re stuck and you want to get unstuck. Like your tormentor, you’ve been taking actions that aren’t working, so try something new. When your well-being depends upon the actions of others, you inadvertently give them power. But with awareness and practice, you can make new choices about how you respond to the difficult people and situations in your life - and take the power back.

Our project manager and his employee will have more opportunities to dance with conflict as their relationship changes and grows. Thanks to the manager’s willingness to try something new, they’ve discovered common ground from which to begin the process. We all have challenging people in our lives. Will they be tormentors or teachers? Our perspective greatly influences our response.

Kitchen Remodeling: First Step

08/17/2008

It’s true with any remodeling project, of course, but a well-designed, detailed plan is especially important when it comes to remodeling your kitchen. Regardless of whether you’re planning to do it yourself or will be using the help of a professional, your first step will be working out a plan that will address three main kitchen criteria: food preparation, storage, and clean-up.

In the 1950s, and up until a relatively sort time ago, kitchens were designed in a triangular pattern, with the three points of the triangle being the stove, refrigerator, and sink. It was considered the most efficient set up at a time when most women stayed home during the day and worked by themselves, making the family’s meals from scratch.

Of course, that’s no longer the case, so kitchens have evolved to match people’s cooking habits, since most women now work outside of the home, share cooking duties with their husbands or significant others, prepare only a few meals from scratch. To reflect those changes, modern kitchens are designed with multiple work areas, including islands, to allow more than one person to work in the kitchen at one time. Many kitchens even include two sinks, in the island and on the traditional countertops, to further facilitate the division of labor.

Since nearly twice as much storage room is required in modern kitchens, cabinets become a major issue when planning a remodel. You’ll want to decide on the types of surfaces, colors, materials, and styles that match both your preference and budget.

The same is true with countertops. They should be durable and attractive, yet well within your price range. One thing to consider is that expensive surfaces such as granite or marble may be extremely durable, but they are very difficult for the average do-it-yourselfer to work with.

When it comes to flooring, modern kitchens are now generally done in vinyl, as opposed to the linoleum that was most commonly found in 50s kitchens. Whether you use sheets or tiles, you’ll have a wide variety of styles and textures to choose from. Wood floors have also been making a comeback in both high end and moderately priced kitchens.

Kitchen sinks can be found in cast iron, stainless steel and plastic, and come in many styles and colors, as do the faucets to fill them. Whether you choose a single or double sink, with one handle or two on your faucet will again be limited only by your taste and budget.

A similar variety of will be available in stoves, microwaves, range hoods, refrigerators, and freezers. It’s up to you to decide what works best for you, without breaking your budget, but regardless of what you choose, it all begins with sitting down and working out a detailed plan of what you want in your new kitchen.

Will Increased Competition in Gaming Laptops Be Beneficial for Us

08/16/2008

It wasn’t too long ago when only a handful of brands produced gaming laptops. The sales figures were not really great but they did give increased cash on each unit than others. These were the kind of laptop computers desired by lots of people but the cost was just too high. Perhaps they were never the most functional but I still believe they were the best laptops. Having said that many of us probably did not buy laptops of this type because of the cost. As the big computer brands recognize the potential revenues in gaming notebooks, the sector is evolving.

In my view they could get off by selling them at a greater price if they desired. Profit margins have been so little lately that this is a excellent opportunity to get more cash by retailing computers. Additionally they can use their massive marketing funds to sway customers further into parting with their savings or getting out the charge cards to buy laptops like these ones. Do the smaller retailers realistically stand a chance with this type of threat? I think once it gets marketed to the masses it will not have the same appeal. Purchasers will additionally gather a lot more peace of mind when paying a larger amount of cash.

With that these units are also perceived to be the best laptops already, even though they really aren’t. This is a major opportunity the smaller resellers should use to their advantage. This is an enormous selling feature that has to be mentioned. These particular buyers are usually very knowledgeable with the technology and are able to compare each of the parts individually. For particular purchasers specifications and benchmarks are more valuable than style.

As a likely purchaser myself this is really all a beneficial thing for me. It will cause prices to dip and make new technology less expensive for everybody. Although that is my take on it, its just my opinion and quite possibly not what will happen. New systems are constantly being launched and these new systems usually call for premium prices. Larger brands have involved themselves with the laptops for gaming division so only time will tell what awaits.

USA Basketball Candidates Official

08/09/2008

The lengthy list of the 25 candidates for the 2008 USA Basketball Team for the Olympics has finally been announced. The USA Basketball team looks to redeem themselves after a poor bronze medal showing at the 2004 Olympics.

The list includes 21 NBA stars (in alphabetical order): Carmelo Anthony, Gilbert Arenas, Shane Battier, Chauncey Billups, Chris Bosh, Bruce Bowen, Elton Brand, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Antawn Jamison, Joe Johnson, Shawn Marion, Brad Miller, Lamar Odom, Chris Paul, Paul Pierce, Michael Redd, Luke Ridnour, Amare Stoudemire, and Dwyane Wade.

J.J. Redick and Adam Morrison, both of whom are currently still in college, are also invited, rounding out the roster to 23 total players.

One player’s exclusion has garnered heated media attention, and his name isAllen Iverson. Many point to Iverson’s age and style of play as reasons for his exclusion, despite his important role in the last Olympics.

“We wanted a team not of individual stars, but athleticism, shooters, role players and distributors,” national team managing director Jerry Colangelo said.

Colangelo is also hoping that high school basketball star Greg Oden will be able to join the team for training this summer.

The 23 players will attend a training camp in Las Vegas in July. The team will then fly to China and South Korea to participate in exhibition games. Afterwards, a 12-man roster will be selected for the world championships held in Japan.

There will be another training camp in 2007, which could be regional Olympic qualifying. It will be followed by another camp and additional exhibition games in 2008, before the Beijing Olympics begin.

The team will be led by Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski.
